Day 8 at Tshikululu

Wednesday 08-02: Today started off with working on my report. The report is a summary of the company that wants money from Tshikululu. You should include the risk, financial situation, an overview, general information etc. The company I am writing about is NECDA, an early childhood development alliance. I could tell you a lot about NECDA and its financial situation but I guess that's secret. After working on my report for 2 hours, I was invited to a FRF meeting (First Rand Fund). This was a meeting about the ECD and how it should be managed. The distribution of money was an element of the meeting too. There were some snacks, so just before we went off to Discovery, I just ate a little. 11:45 we left, and arrived 12:10 at Discovery. What a enormous company, and what a nice building. We were treated as VIPS; we were allowed on the private parking place, got priority concerning waiting time, etc. We waited for half an hour, and Busi explained me their clients and what this meeting was all about. All the companies that want money from Tshikululu and are health related, will be in the Trustee meeting. This is becuase the clients' focus area (Discovery) is health too. These have to match. The meeting started at 13:00. At first 2 people from Cape Town held a presentation about a 'travel safe to school' project. Yearly, 3000 children die because of bad road behaviour. This programme wanted to educate and train people to become safe drivers. After this presentation, the other NPO's were discussed, which would be funded and which would not. It was very interesting, but a big information 'boom' too. At 16:00 the meeting ended and Lisa brought me home (SI Specialist). Tomorrow we will go to the Wits University, and to Soweto for a site visit.
